Wireless Locations

The wireless network covers most of campus, and also extends to some off-campus sites.

On-Campus

All buildings at the University are covered by the wireless network, including the Lawlor Events Center. Please contact the OIT Support Center to report any areas of no signal. 

Outside

The wireless signal can also be accessed in the following outside locations:

  • Green Parking areas to the North and East of Central Services
  • Blue Parking areas near Comstock Childcare
  • Parking and lawn areas between Family Med, Howard, and Pennington Medical Building
  • Front of CMM
  • Parking on the NW side of Anderson
  • Courtyard in Grad Housing
  • Walkway from LRC to SMC to Stadium and adjacent parking on Stadium Way

The Campus WiFi Strength Map is a map of the University of Nevada, Reno main campus showing all of the buildings and the transportation routes (pathways and roadways) on campus and the roads surrounding the main campus: Virginia St. to the west, McCarran Blvd. to the north, Evans Ave. to the east and Ninth St. to the south.

The map legend includes the following zones to indicate the strength of WiFi coverage:

  • Excellent
  • Fair

 

 Excellent WiFi coverage

 From northwest to southeast, the following outdoor areas have excellent WiFi coverage:

  • The area immediately to the east of the Child Care Facility, spanning from just north of the building to just south of the building.
  • The area surrounding the Central Services building, from the northwest of the building around in a circle to just slightly southwest of the building. The zone extends to the east all the way to the Purchasing Department building.
  • The areas to the west of Anderson Health Sciences, in a half-moon shape extending from the Center for Molecular Medicine to the north to the mid-point of Anderson Health Sciences.
  • The south entry way to the Center for Molecular Medicine.
  • The area in between Anderson Health Sciences, Nellor Biomedical Sciences, Manville Health Sciences and Savitt Medical Sciences.
  • The area in between Manville Health Sciences and Howard Medical Sciences.
  • North of the William N. Pennington Health Sciences Building, covering a circular area extending from the building’s mid-point to just past the east of the building.
  • A large circle centered around the Parking & Transportation building, stretching to N. Virginia St. on the west, the Nevada Historical Society and Computer Center buildings on the north and West Stadium Parking Complex on the east. The coverage zone ends at the roundabout north of the Fleishman Planetarium.
  • The roadway just north of the Stadium Club.
  • The roads and outdoor areas stretching from the east of Mackay Stadium around the west of the Family Medicine Center and bounded on the north by Savitt Medical Sciences. The coverage extends east as far as the Department of Pediatrics on the southern end and Pennington Medical Education on the north.
  • The area in between the Nell J. Redfield Building and Pennington Medical Education building, stretching southeast past South Medical Way.
  • Two small zones north west of Lawlor Events Center and three larger zones directly south and south east of Lawlor Events Center.
  • The area east of Legacy Hall stretching from just south of Mackay Stadium in the north and covering roads and outdoor areas south of the Marguerite W. Petersen Athletic Academic center and the Robert Cashell Fieldhouse.
  • The areas east of the Sports Medicine Complex, from the Visitor’s Locker Room to the north to Lombardi Recreation Center in the south, and crossing East Stadium Way to the east.
  • The courtyard between the Ponderosa Village buildings, stretching northwest of the buildings as well.
  • The areas surrounding Lombardi Recreation Center from the south around the building to the west, crossing East Stadium Way in the west, and excluding area directly northwest of the building that are adjacent to the building itself.
  • 15th Street to both the north and south from North Virginia St. on the west including the roundabout.
  • The areas surrounding the Joe Crowley Student Union, stretching to the Applied Research Facility in the east, and excluding the areas directly adjacent to the building in the south and south east where the two wings of the building make a corner.
  • The areas surrounding the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, stretching almost the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex in the West and almost to Evans Avenue in the east.
  • The areas surrounding the National Judicial College to the north, west and south.
  • The area to the east of the Fitzgerald Student Services Building.
  • The areas entirely surrounding the William J. Raggio Building.
  • The area surrounding Edmund J. Cain Hall to the west, and south.
  • The areas between Church Fine Arts and the Reynolds School of Journalism.
  • The area bounded by the William Raggio Building to the northwest, Edmund Cain Hall to the northeast and the Facilities Services building to the southeast.
  • The area in between the Virginia St. Gym and Mack Social Science.
  • The entire Manzanita Bowl, surrounding Mack Social Science, Schulich Lecture Hall, Leifson Physics and the Chemistry Building.
  • The areas north, west and south of the Harry Reid Engineering laboratory.
  • A short connection between the Harry Reid Engineering Laboratory and the midpoint of the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory.
  • The area west of Great Basin Hall
  • The area surrounding Lincoln Hall
  • The areas surrounding Pennington Student Achievement Center, with the exception of zones directly abutting the building to the north, west and south at the entry way.
  • The area surrounding the Ansari Business Building, with the exception of zones directly abutting the building to the north and west.
  • The areas to the north, west and south of the Utility Plant
  • The walkway bounded by North Virginia Street to the east, Great Basin Hall to the north and Jot Travis Building to the south, stretching east to Mackay Mines.
  • The area in between Mackay Mines and the Scrugham Engineering Building.
  • The area bounded by the Scrugham Engineering Building to the north, Palmer Engineering to the east and the Paul Laxalt Mineral Engineering Building to the South.
  • The area surrounding the Jot Travis Building
  • The area surrounding The Den
  • The area surrounding the Thompson Building
  • The area surrounding Ross Hall
  • The Quad
  • The area in between Paul Laxalt Mineral Research and the Davison Mathematics & Science Center, excluding the area directly north of Davidson Math & Science Center.
  • The area in between Davidson Math & Science Center and William N. Pennington Engineering Building, stretching south the Fleishmann Agriculture and east nearly to Evans Avenue.
  • The area surrounding Frandsen Humanities
  • The area surrounding the Jones Center
  • The area around the Honor Court, stretching north to the landscaped portion and east to Morrill Hall.
  • The immediate west, south and east of the Orvis Building, starting at the building’s north-south midpoint.
  • A small area directly west of Manzanita Hall, starting away from the building
  • The area surrounding the Life Science and Fleischman Agriculture Buildings
  • The area between Morrill Hall and the Sarah H. Fleischmann Building, stretching west down to the roundabout and south past the creek.

 Fair WiFi Coverage

 From northwest to southeast, the following outdoor areas have fair WiFi coverage:

  • The area surrounding the Child Care Facility, further away from the building and outside of the excellent WiFi coverage zone.
  • The area surrounding the Central Services building, further away from the building and outside of the excellent WiFi coverage zone. . The zone extends to the east all the way to the Nevada State Health Laboratory building.
  • The areas to the west of Anderson Health Sciences, in a half-moon shape extending from the Center for Molecular Medicine to the north to the bottom of Savitt Medical Sciences in the south.
  • The south entry way to the Center for Molecular Medicine, further away from the building and outside of the excellent WiFi coverage zone. .
  • North of the William N. Pennington Health Sciences Building, outside of the excellent WiFi coverage zone, covering a circular area extending from the building’s mid-point to just past the east of the building.
  • The roads and outdoor areas stretching from the east of Mackay Stadium around the west of the Family Medicine Center and bounded on the north by the Nevada State Health Laboratory.
  • The area to the east of Pennington Medical Education, stretching north to the midpoint of Howard Medical Sciences, east to South Medical Way, and south to the John Sala Intermural Practice Fields.
  • The area directly north and south of the Nell J. Redfield Building.
  • The area southeast of Mackay Stadium, encompassing the Visitor’s Locker Room, and stretching across East Stadium Way curving north to the NellJ. Redfield Building and curving south toward Lombardi Recreation Center. These curved zones are further away from the surrounding buildings and outside the excellent WiFi zones around those buildings.
  • A large circle around the Parking & Transportation building, further away from the building and outside of the excellent WiFi coverage zone, stretching across N. Virginia St. on the west, to the mid-point of the Nevada Historical Society and Computer Center buildings on the north and Mackay Stadium on the east. The coverage zone ends at the north edge of the Fleishman Planetarium.
  • The roadways south of the Stadium Club, reaching down to Legacy Hall and moving east along the edge of Mackay Stadium south to the Robert Cashell Fieldhouse.
  • Two small zones to the northwest of Lawlor Events Center and one small zone to the east.
  • Directly southeast of the Robert Cashell Fieldhouse on Stadium Way.
  • Several small zones directly east and south of Lombardi Recreation Center, directly next to the building, and stretching south to the road north of the Applied Research Facility.
  • From the south border of the John Sala Intramural Practice Fields to Evans Avenue, around Ponderosa Village.
  • From North Virginia Street where it intersects with E. 15th Street, from the entrance to Lawlor in the north to the midpoint of the E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center in the south.
  • The areas directly west and south of the Joe Crowley Student Union, directly next the building and inside the zone of excellent WiFi coverage.
  • The areas between the E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center and the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex.
  • The area directly east of the northern two-thirds of the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex.
  • A strip of land east of the Mathewson IGT Knowledge Center along Evans Avenue.
  • The area directly east of the Fitzgerald Student Services Building, from the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex in the north to Church Fine Arts in the south.
  • Small patches of areas scattered along the roads and walkways from the Knowledge Center in the northeast to Fitzgerald Student Services in the southwest.
  • A small area north of Edmund J. Cain Hall
  • East of Edmund J. Cain Hall across Evans Avenue
  • The courtyard of Church Fine Arts
  • Patchy areas west of the Reynolds School of Journalism
  • The lower northeast corner of the University Arts Building
  • The area at the top of the stairs north of Schulich Lecture Hall as well as two small patches east of the top of the stairs
  • North of the Facilities Services Building, directly around the building
  • Surrounding the Facilities Services Annex
  • From Virginia Street into the roadway between the Virginia Street Gym and Great Basin Hall
  • The area directly north of Pennington Student Achievement Center, as well as a smaller area east of the building and the south entryway.
  • The area directly north and west of Ansari Business building, directly next to the building
  • A cone-shaped area to the east of the Utility Plant building.
  • Small patches of space to the east and south of Harry Reid Engineering Laboratory, as well as most of the space between the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory.
  • The area along Virginia Street from the midpoint of Great Basin Hall in the north down to the Manzanita Bowl in the south, including the areas surrounding Juniper and Manzanita Halls.
  • The area directly north of Mackay Maines
  • The area directly north of Palmer Engineering
  • The area northwest of the north wing of the William N. Pennington Engineering building.
  • The area north of Davidson Mathematics & Science Center and south of Palmer Engineering, running to the William N. Pennington Engineering Building in the east.
  • The area between Paul Laxalt Mineral Engineering and Paul Laxalt Mineral Research.
  • The area between Paul Laxalt Mineral Engineering and Paul Mackay Science
  • The area bounded by Paul Laxalt Mineral Research in the north, the Orvis Building on the east, Sarah H. Fleishmann Building in the south, and Mackay Science in the east.
  • The area directly east of the north half of the Orvis Building.
  • The area bordering Evans Avenue from the William N. Pennington Engineering Building in the east to 9th street in the south.
  • The area surrounding Clark administration, with the exception of the area between the southern part of the building and Manzanita Lake, which has no coverage.
  • The parking areas south of Clark Administration and Morrill Hall, with some patchy areas of excellent WiFi coverage interspersed
  • The area south of the culvert to 9th street
