Zoom

Zoom is the recommended video conferencing tool that can be used for instructional/academic activities such as live class sessions, presentations by guest lecturers, instructor office hours, or interactions between students and peers. Zoom allows you to conduct class or hold meetings in a live online format using a web camera and microphone. It also features the ability to share the contents of your screen, a chat function, a virtual whiteboard, breakout rooms for smaller discussions, and allows you to record your sessions.

The University of Nevada, Reno license plan also allows for unlimited* duration meetings, meeting capacity of 300, and cloud video storage for recorded meetings.

Support for Zoom is managed by the Office of Digital Learning. Zoom is accessed via an online web portal, as a standalone application for your PC/Mac, as an app on your mobile device, or in WebCampus. With the WebCampus integration, you can add the Zoom link to your course menus for easy deployment in your courses.

*Meetings will time out automatically after 24 hours.

Get Zoom

For Instructional and Student Use: Please visit the Office of Digital Learning website for guidance on academic use of Zoom.

For Non-Instructional and Administrative Use: The University's Zoom Online Portal (unr.zoom.us) has everything a general user needs to host or join meetings. At the link, select the SSO (Single Sign On) option, then sign in with your NetID and password.

There's no desktop software install necessary -- if a plug-in is required for any reason, a prompt to auto install via browser will appear when connecting to the meeting.

Zoom may be used for non-instructional activities, if you so desire. However, Microsoft Teams may be a better option for meetings, events, or other non-instructional sessions that require hands-on or a high level of support.
