The University of Nevada, Reno's student email is a service powered by Google in accordance with an agreement signed by Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). While Google hosts the service, the domain name "@nevada.unr.edu" is the property and responsibility of the University. Therefore, all users of this service must be eligible and agree to the following policies and procedures.

Eligibility

To be eligible a user must be currently term activated (eligible to enroll or enrolled in current or subsequent semester) or have completed 6 or more credits. Eligibility will be assessed every semester and those not meeting the minimum requirement may have their account de-activated. Once the 6 or more credits requirement is satisfied, the email account is usable by the user as long as NSHE maintains the system wide agreement with Google and the user does not voluntarily gives up the right.

Terms and Conditions

  • When an Email account is created, the following information will be sent to Google:
    • Full name
    • Selected username
    • Selected password
       
  • Users agree to abide by:
  • Additionally, there are some limitations on the type of content that can be used for the email address by the Student with the University Email service. These limitations comply with legal requirements. Some examples of these limitations include, but are not limited to:
    • Misrepresenting or incorrect association with the University
    • Choosing a username that contains obscenity or threats of violence against others or the University
    • Impersonating a University employee of affiliate or third party in a manner that does or is intended to mislead, confuse or deceive others
    • Sending unsolicited bulk email, otherwise known as spam
    • Unlawfully stalking or harassing others through the use of email
    • Using business names, logos or usernames of businesses or individuals that hold legal claim, trademark or copyright on those usernames.
       
  • The University does not endorse, support, represent or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of any content or communications posted via the services or endorse any opinions expressed via the services. The Students remain solely and fully responsible for the content of any username, material posted, hosted, downloaded/uploaded, created, accessed or transmitted using the University Email services. The Student understands that by using the Email services, the Student may be exposed to content that might be offensive, harmful, inaccurate or otherwise inappropriate. Under no circumstances will the University be liable in any way for any content, including, but not limited to, any errors or omissions in any content, or any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any content posted, emailed, transmitted or otherwise made available via the services or broadcast elsewhere. The University reserves the right to terminate an email account for any violation of these agreements. This termination might involve loss of email and data. Some examples of violations include, but are not limited to:
    • Misrepresenting or incorrect association with the University
    • Impersonating a University employee or affiliate
    • Sending unsolicited bulk email, otherwise known as spam
    • Stalking or harassing others thru the use of email
       
  • All administrative actions will be governed under the University's Student Code of Conduct and managed by staff from the Office of Student Conduct and Information Technology.
